Visual language opens closed doors

I have seen people so shut down by words sent from a mean spirit finding themselves opened up and healed by visual encounters. The visual language can open doors that have been nailed shut for fear of more verbal abuse or empty promises. I have discovered closed doors in my own heart...places I no longer dared to open up to dreams or hope...I've discovered these places through images that give them voice. I have come to believe that the visual language is the first language of the heart. Think about how it is in our developmental process. To what language does the infant first respond? What about you?

I agree. Color and texture can express feelings that words cannot. It is a safe way to communicate. No one can argue with pictures. And as we create, only the Lord knows knows the true meaning of the expression found in our heart.

"Where there is no vision, the people perish." Proverbs 29:18 I think it's pretty cool that the visual aspect of our humanity impacts our ability to hope, to dream and to move into our destiny. Visual language absolutely opens doors!

Just this a.m.'s meditation on the Lines of Connection in Pricilla's book made me think of a decision I made more than 30 years ago and Jesus' response to me. I admitt, I don't know how that happened (I like to analyze), but I believe it was a part of the visual encounter and some of the words in the book. I think of people's visual encounters with Jesus: those who have had near death experiences or think of John's encounter in the book of Revelation - how in those experiences the immediacy of those encounters are described visually (yet with words of course, clumsy words:). The power of the visual encounter! But on the negative I think of the visual barrage of images in the way of Madison Avenue manipulation of the visual and realize the abuse of the visual that exists in our world.

I was thrilled to see another response here, Fred. Your comments are so thoughtful. Thanks much. I appreciate the consideration of the negative or evil visual encounters. When trying to get folks to realize what a gift our imagination is I will illustrate how the Enemy knows how powerful this gift is....how he can stimulate it with fears. It seems folks realize more of the fullness of this power with their greater familiarity with the way it works with fear. It is as if it is a new thought to realize its power with Holy Spirit. Your comment, Fred, using the familiar negative for visual encounters connected another dot for me. Cool!!! Corporate thinking is sweet.

It is hard for me to get started and keep going with the visual language journaling. I think it is because there are areas of my self that I am still receiving healing in and they are scary and sore to touch upon. I know that visual journaling could help - but struggle to be that vulnerable, even with myself and God.
